Now don’t shoot me. I am no english major, and in a time and age where instant messaging/texting has consumed the lifestyles of our generation, and has encouraged the use of mispronounciation, misspelling, acronyms and short hand, even I find myself overlooking the importance of writing. Our parents and our grandparents have many names for our generation: The Remote Control/Microwave/iPod/Spell-check generation. Can we blame them? We as second (or is it third?) generation Koreans have everything we could ever want, and lack nothing that we need. We know what we want, and ant it now, fast, and to our convenience. With such luxuries to pamper us, we get lazy, selfish, spoiled, apathetic and (for lack of a better word) stupid. We get comfortable, we slack, and cut corners and often get away with it. Should we raise the bar and hope it sparks some momentum of challenge and encouragement? Should we lower the bar to raise their self esteem? This blog could go on for weeks if i elaborated any more, but for thos eof you who are reading this, i am sure you concur. Now, i am not saying i am an ambassador for change through one WordPress blog entry, but it is something that i have been observing (even in myself) and reflecting upon for a while now.
